Teachers: Franziska, Olga
Every Friday 6-7.30pm (you can always catch up on a missed class)
Note: Our Basics Course is designed to introduce Iyengar Yoga, but it can also be followed as a regular class and used to visit basic principals for more seasoned practitioners. For example if you like to practice a specific topic in a small group or if the time slot is convenient.
In 7 classes you will learn the basic principles of Iyengar Yoga. We work towards the sun salutation (surya namaskarasana) and (sarvangasana) shoulder stand. You will learn how to build strength and flexibility in standing poses, how to approach forward, backward and lateral extensions, how to go upsidedown and how to use props to tailor the poses to your own abilities. At the end of each class, you will learn how to rest your body and calm your mind in Savasana.
We offer our 'Basic Course Iyengar Yoga' as a continuous class. This means: after 7 classes, the course starts again immediatel
You can start the course at any time.
You can keep repeating the course for as long as you like.
Here are all 7 classes of our BC in a row. Note: besides the specific topic, all classes practice sun salutations and a version of shoulder-stand.
1. STANDING, focus on legs, feet and balance
2. FORWARD extensions, focus on how to fold
3. ‘BABY’ BACKBENDS, activating the back and extending the front of the body.
4. TWISTS, standing and seated
5. BACKWARD extensions, using a chair
6. YOGA KURUNTA, use of the wall-ropes
7. SIRSASANA, working towards headstand.
The classes don’t need to be followed in a specific order. However we strongly advise students new to (Iyengar) yoga to follow all classes successively. That way you will get the most out of the course.
