The autonomic nervous system regulates automatic processes and functions in your body such as digestion and your heart rate. It consists of the parasympathetic system that promotes calm and tranquility, and the sympathetic system that provides energy and alertness. If there is a balance between the two, then both energies can do their maximum work. We cannot directly control the autonomic nervous system with our thinking and willpower. But by practicing asana`s and pranayama, influence is definitely possible.

The vagus nerve is the primary nerve of the parasympathetic nervous system. Stimulation of the vagus nerve, for example, can help relieve stress or strengthen your immune system. The counterpart of the vagus nerve is the sympathetic nerve in the spinal cord. By means of yoga we can also enhance its positive effects.

During the workshop we will work with yoga postures such as twistings, backbends and balancings, but also with other exercises that influence the functioning of the autonomic nervous system.

Who can participate?
The workshop is suitable for anyone with at least 1 year of experience in Iyengar Yoga. It is also challenging and inspiring for more advanced yogis.
