WHAT TO EXPECT?

Study & Practice
Over four Saturday sessions, we will explore anatomy and yoga philosophy, discovering how theory can support and enrich your yoga practice. Theory and practice are naturally woven together throughout the day. We conclude each afternoon with a bowl of soup and a short reflection. Personal growth is at the heart of the course.
Who can join? Anyone with basic yoga experience and good health is welcome. Postures can be adapted where needed to suit individual abilities and experience levels.

Asana Training
Over four Sunday sessions, we will work through all 75 asanas of the Iyengar Yoga Level 1 syllabus, organized around different themes. The emphasis is on practice, experience, and deepening your understanding. An inspiring and challenging training in which you build strength, confidence, and insight alongside fellow yogis.
Who can join? Yogis with a solid foundation in asana practice, including headstand and shoulderstand. If you're unsure whether this training is right for you, feel free to get in touch.

Philosophy

Class 1: Patanjali’s Eightfold Path
Patanjali’s Eightfold Path describes a journey toward inner peace and self-awareness through eight interconnected steps. The first steps focus on how we live and on preparing the body and mind, while the later steps lead progressively toward deeper states of inner stillness. In this session, we will explore the meaning of these steps, how to embody them in daily life, and how to integrate them more fully into your yoga practice.

Class 2: Patanjali’s Kleshas
Patanjali’s Kleshas are the five causes of inner disturbance and suffering that cloud our awareness. These Kleshas often operate unconsciously, acting as filters through which we perceive situations and respond to what happens around us. In this session, we will explore how the Kleshas influence and shape our yoga practice. Through mindful observation and dedicated practice, we can learn to recognize these habitual patterns and develop a freer, more conscious relationship with them.

Anatomy

Each anatomy session focuses on a specific area of the body or a particular joint:

Anatomy 1: The Hips
Anatomy 2: The Shoulders

We connect anatomical knowledge with yoga practice, helping you develop a deeper understanding of what happens in the body during movement.

We will explore the structure, function, and range of motion of the joint and apply this knowledge to the practice of asana: which muscles are engaged or lengthened, what takes place within the pose, and what is required for stability. We will also examine different variations, making each posture both accessible and more challenging when appropriate.

This creates a practical and insightful learning experience in which theory and practice enrich and support one another.

Asana Training

In four Sunday-sessions we will cover all 75 asana’s from the Iyengar Yoga Level 1 Syllabus. We will cut the syllabus into sections focusing on specific groups of asanas per session. This will be accompanied by inversions that will be practiced at every session.

The focus will be on doing and training, not so much on explaining. Compare it to a fun and challenging hike with likeminded people. You will study the state of your practice, discover what goes well or needs more attention, build stamina and gain multiple insight along the way. Don’t worry, we will keep it light and fun and take breaks if necessary.
